Stanton Gallegos

Stanton represents businesses and non-profits in complex litigation, including securities litigation, shareholder disputes, class actions, antitrust, and other commercial matters. He has extensive experience in securities and financial investments, representing financial institutions and investors in matters relating to mortgage-backed securities, failed investment funds, and merger transactions. Stanton also represents clients on appeal in state and federal courts as parties and as amicus curiae.

Stanton’s experience includes:

• Defending the Governor of Oregon, the Oregon Real Estate Commission, and others from an antitrust claim alleging state-sanctioned price fixing. The federal district court granted defendants’ motion to dismiss with prejudice on state-action immunity grounds, halting the case at the pleading stage and before discovery.
• Defending sportswear company in putative class action alleging failure to supervise in connection with a team sponsorship. The federal district court granted a motion to compel arbitration and ordered the plaintiff to arbitrate the claim in individual arbitration.
• Defending a utility in class action asserting claims under the federal securities laws and related derivative actions associated with a power trading loss.
• Defended a national law firm in a federal class action and related mass actions arising out of the failure of the Aequitas family of investment funds.
• Representing a software service provider in a $110 million software dispute involving allegations of intellectual property theft by a competitor.

Before joining Markowitz Herbold, Stanton clerked for the Honorable Ralph K. Winter of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and was an associate in the New York office of Sullivan & Cromwell LLP.
