Markowitz Herbold Secures Victory for NFL Star Odell Beckham Jr.

After a brief deliberation, a Multnomah County Circuit Court jury has awarded no damages to either Miami Dolphins wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. or Nike on a portion of a closely watched breach of contract case.

Chad Colton, lead trial counsel at Markowitz Herbold representing Beckham, hailed the outcome as a significant victory in the multi-faceted case. At trial, Beckham, a three-time All-Pro NFL star, had faced potential liability of up to $15 million in damages from Nike.

Beckham initially sued Nike in 2022, alleging that the sportswear giant had withheld money owed under their endorsement agreement. In response, Nike countersued, accusing Beckham of modifying his Nike gloves in breach of his contract and disclosing confidential terms of the deal.

“Odell was thrilled with the outcome of the trial,” says Colton. “He literally broke down in tears when the jury announced its verdict. The trial created significant exposure for Odell because his main claims had been dismissed on summary judgment and were on appeal. So, with the exception of a relatively small claim by Odell, Nike’s counterclaims became the focus of the trial—giving Nike major leverage to get Odell to abandon his appeal. But Odell stood strong and scored a big victory at trial.”

Beckham is represented by Chad Colton, Stanton Gallegos, Adam Starr, Joseph Levy of Markowitz Herbold, and Daniel Davillier, Charles Zimmer, II, and Jonathan Lewis of the Davillier Law Group in New Orleans, LA.

Congratulations to our client, Odell Beckham Jr., on his victory against Nike.
