Jermaine Brown

Now in private practice at Markowitz Herbold, Jermaine works on some of the firm’s most complex cases and is a key member of the government litigation practice. He has particular expertise in public records requests for governmental entities.

His experience includes:

• Investigating and prosecuting violations of Oregon’s consumer protection laws.
• Assisting in litigating contract, false claims, and civil racketeering claims against a major software vendor.
• Representing the State in public records disputes stemming from litigation against a major software vendor.
• Representing the Department of Human Services in child welfare matters, including court hearings and trials.
• Coordinating the collection and review of documents following receipt of over 100 public records requests made to state agencies regarding a major state technology project.
• Representing the State in civil rights litigation.
•  Defending an athletic wear company against deceptive advertising claims.

Jermaine also served as a special assistant counsel to former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber where he represented multiple public bodies including Cover Oregon, the Office of the Governor, the Department of Human Services, the Department of Justice, the Department of Consumer and Business Services, and the Oregon Health Authority.

After law school, Jermaine served as a law clerk for the Honorable Darleen Ortega of the Oregon Court of Appeals. Jermaine is a graduate of Harvard University and the University of Oregon School of Law.
